For golfers who are just starting out with the game, choosing the right equipment can be just as hard as mastering the swing or grip. There are so many options available and most people end up utterly confused by the situation. A part of this whole process is choosing the correct club length. If you are getting clubs fitted then someone will guide you in that process, but if you are simply buying a set of clubs this is something you are going to have to choose yourself. However, there are some tips to help you do this correctly.
This great little video shows how to choose the correct club length in a fairly accurate way.

Golf grip tips
After posting a great little swing setup video yesterday I realized that I probably should have started at the basics first. Before you start swinging a golf club or sorting out any problems in your swing it is important to make sure that you have the correct grip. The wrong grip can cause all kinds of problems. Fortunately there are some great resources online for helping beginning players set up that perfect grip. This video is a fantastic instructional piece on the golf grip and is well worth watching!

Long Iron Tips
Apart from the driver, long irons are probably the most feared clubs in any amateurs bag. They can provide some amazing highs and some discouraging lows as two shots never seem to be the same.
This great video shows the correct set up and swing for hitting consistent long irons. Follow the advice and you will be well on your way to hitting those long irons and long way!

Jack Nicklaus' Golf Swing Tips
This golf tip comes straight from the golden bear himself. When Jack speaks people listen!
"After under-clubbing and poor gripping, I beleive beginning the swing too quickly does more to keep handicaps high than any other fault. Better players, too, are prone to it under pressure. The mental image I've used throughout my career when sensing that I'm starting the swing too quickly is that I'm going to make a terribly forced, ridiculously slow movement of the clubhead away from the ball.
To do that, it helps me most to picture all the active parts - clubhead, shaft, hands, arms, shoulders - moving back together or in 'one peice' for at least the first couple of feet of the backswing. I'm also sometimes helped by thinking of maintaining this super-slow tempo throughout the rest of the swing.
For a tighter focus on start-back tempo, visualize particularly your hands and arms moving away from the ball 'ridiculously slowly'. They won't actually do so but mind-picturing them in slow motion is the best way I know to ensure an unhurried start to the swing."

Putting Tips - Week 2
It's week 2 of my putting tips (view week one) and trying some of last weeks tips I have had some successes, but I still feel like I can do better with my putting.
The tip I am going to follow this week is another youtube golf pro special that suggests I can improve my putting by working on:
- Starting the ball on the right line (well that makes sense)
- Concentrating on the starting line
I have heard this tip before and I am willing to give it a go - now I just have to find a green keeper who wont mind me sticking two tees in his beautiful green.

Putting Tips - Video (#1)
"Golf is a weird game" My friend said. "It took you two shots to go 350 yards and then 3 shots to go10 feet." I could have bludgeoned him with my putter right there on the spot.
I don't know about you, but putting is the weakest part of my game. I am always looking for tips to help me, but they rarely work - so for the next month I am going to post some putting tips I find on youtube and then put them into practice and let my loyal readers know how I went - keep checking back for the update.

Golf Instructional Video - The Grip
I found this great instructional video while searching youtube and thought I would share it with my readers. At the moment it is too wet to play golf so I am stuck at home watching it or reading about it. I guess it gives me a good chance to work on my mental game and make my way through some new swing hints and tips.
If you have ever had trouble with your golf swing or grip then this video is worth sitting through. The presenter explains himself well and like many others out there has some very good ideas.
Good Luck!

jack Nicklaus Golf Tips - Video
I must admit I wasn't old enough to see the golden bear in his prime, but I have watched him play golf many times in recent years and he still has a beautiful swing. He still hits the ball better than most golfers and he shows that you can still play golf long after your prime.
Earlier I brought you some old Ben Hogan golf tips, so I thought I have to also include arguably the greatest golfers tips as well. Jack has some really great things to say in this short video and is well worth watching.
If you are new to the game then this video is a must watch! I wish I could find this original tape for myself!

Ben Hogan's Golf Tips - Video
Ben Hogan is considered one of the greatest golfers to play the game. In 292 career PGA Tour events, Ben Hogan finished in the Top 3 in 47.6-percent of them. He finished in the Top 10 in 241 of those 292 events. He finished with 64 tour victories and 9 major victories. So I am quite excited to have found this footage of Hogan explaining some golf swing pointers.
The footage might be slightly old and Ben might not be with us any more, but the tips apply just as much today as when Ben first filmed the video. Enjoy the master at work.
